Wishing Stones has a wonderful lending library with over 4000 books, movies and magazines for all ages. Most of the library content came from donations made by islanders and island visitors. This library is the result of an amazing community effort and the positive response and support the library continuously gets has made it a huge success.
Donations are always welcome and all duplicate books can be purchased for $1 or an amount of your choice dropped into the museum donation box. Because the Tancook Island Museum and lending library are not funded in any way, all donations are greatly appreciated.
One section of the lending library consists of hundreds of movies; both DVD and VHS. If you find yourself spending a night, a weekend or a vacation of any length on the island, drop by and check out the selection. It might be a fun way to spend an evening.
Wishing Stones also has a games room full of board games, trivia games and jigsaw puzzles. People often come to visit and end up playing cards or chess. The games and puzzles are part of the library and can be borrowed and returned, just like the books and movies.
And if you are looking for a fun gift for someone, you might find the story of Gallery Mouse intriguing. Printed in booklet/magazine style, this little story is a delight for anyone to read.
The story and photography were one of Hillary's creative projects. All the mice pictured in the booklet were island mice that were caught live and well taken care of while in captivity. After posing for the photos in the Gallery Mouse story, all the mice were released back into the wild.
Copies of the booklet are available at the gallery for $10 or visit Lucy Neatby's website to purchase the downloadable ebook version for a few dollars more.
Whether you are popping in to borrow a few books or movies, or are planning to sit and read for a couple of hours in the comfortable and peaceful atmosphere of the gallery and library, you’re sure to have an enjoyable visit.
